Accamma Cherian was an Indian freedom fighter from the erstwhile Travancore (Kerala), India. She was popularly known as the Jhansi Rani of Travancore.

Chacko, P.T (1915–64) was a prominent politician of Travancore and later Kerala. He was the Home Minister of Kerala during 1960-64

Chettur Sankaran Nair - President of the Indian National Congress (1897 -1898)

E.M.S. Sankaran Namboodiripad - One of the early freedom fighters of Kerala. Was one of the founder leaders of the Congress Socialist Party. Later, joined the Communist Party.

Gopalan, A.K (AKG) - One of the early freedom fighters of Kerala. Was associated with Kelappan for a long time. One of the founder leaders of the Congress Socialist Party. Later, joined the Communist Party.

Krishna Pillai, P - One of the early freedom fighters of Kerala. Was one of the founder leaders of the Congress Socialist Party. Later, joined the Communist Party.

K. Kelappan - Known as "Kerala Gandhi". Leader of the Payyannur Salt Satyagraha and the Guruvayur Satyagraha. He was also the founding President of Nair Service Society. Postal Stamp about Sri.K.Kelappan.

 Mammen Mappillai, K. C.  : became editor of the Malayalam language (spoken in the Indian state of Kerala) daily called Malayala Manorama after Kandathil Varghese Mappillai died. Besides being a noted journalist, he was a freedom-fighter. He was a member of the Sree Moolam Popular Assembly. He also went into development of plantations, and was the inspiration behind the various enterprises of his sons. Born in 1873, he died at the turn of the year of 1953 and 1954. He married Kunjandamma (Modisseril family) who died in September 1950. His children consisted of eight sons and one daughter:-

Madhavan Nair, Sir C  - Administrator during British Rule.

Mathai Manjooran (1912 - 1970) - A gallant freedom fighter, socialist revolutionary, member of the Indian Parliament, Labor Minister in the 2nd EMS communist ministry, and the staunchest advocate towards the formation of Kerala State.

Pattom A. Thanu Pillai

Panampilli Govinda Menon - One of the early freedom fighters of the princely state of Cochin. Later, became a cabinet minister under Mrs. Indira Gandhi.

Varghese, T. M.

Vakkom Majeed - Freedom Fighter, Former Member of Travancore-Cochin State Assembly.


Velu Thampi Dalava - Fought the East India Company at a time they were grabbing power in princely states.

Dr. P. C. Alexander : Padinjarethalakal Cherian Alexander of Mavelikkera, India (20 March 1921 – 10 August 2011) was an Indian politician and civil servant who served as the Governor of Tamil Nadu from 1988 to 1990 and as the Governor of Maharashtra from 1993 to 2002. He was considered as a candidate for the post of the President of India in 2002. During his time in Maharashtra, he had additional charge of Goa from 1996 to 1998. He was also a member of the Rajya Sabha representing Maharashtra as an independent candidate from 29 July 2002 to 2 April 2008. (NB: Article about Dr.P.C.Alexander)

Shadkala Govinda Marar (E.P.1)

Govinda Mārār (1798–1843), more famously known as Śadkāla Govinda Mārār was a Carnatic Musician from Kerala, India. He was a contemporary of Saint Tyāgarāja and Swathi Thirunal Rama Varma. He was also adept in playing musical instruments like Chenda, Edakka and Thimila. His expertise in singing in the six degrees of geometric speed earned him the title Śatkāla. Govinda Marar was born in 1798 in Ramamangalam village in Kerala.His parents belonged to community of Marars who performed the traditional singing in the temples of Kerala. He took to singing from a very early age. He received his musical lessons from Haripad Ramaswamy Bhagavathar. He is said to have used a Tamburu having seven strings. At the age of 21, he left his home to begin a life of wandering. He is believed to have sung in many important temples all over Kerala. (See: More ....)

PULIYOOR PURUSHOTHAMAN NAMBUDIRI (1889 - ?) :  He was a great scholar poet and expert exponent of astrology. He was born in Puliyoor Illam of Chegannoor. He studied Sanskrit and astrology in the traditional way. He is the author of the famous Puliyoor Panchaangam, a respected and reliable almanac. He accomplished the rare feat of translating Naishadham Mahaakaavyam by Shreeharsha, a very hard nut to crack.
